NASHVILLE, Tenn. – January 13,
2005 – The GMA Foundation (GMAF)
will induct Walter Hawkins, Mylon
Le Fevre, Evie Tornquist and
The Lewis Family into the GMA
Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Ron
Huff, Don Light and Lou
Hildreth will also be inducted
as non-performing members into the
GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame during
the event on Tuesday, February 22,
2005 in Nashville, announced John W.
Styll, president of the GMAF.
The GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame
event will be held on Tuesday,
February 22 at Trinity Music City in
Hendersonville, Tenn. at 7:30 p.m.
The event will be taped as a
one-hour special for TBN. Host,
performers and ticket information
will be announced shortly.
"We congratulate the newest
inductees for the GMA Gospel Music
Hall of Fame. Each is deserving, not
only for their individual artistic
contributions to gospel music, but
for the profound influence they had
on artists that followed them,” said
Styll. “Their contributions to
gospel music will be forever
remembered by this honor.”
The GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame
was established in 1971 and has
inducted 137 members since its
inception, including Elvis Presley,
Mahalia Jackson, Amy Grant, the
Blind Boys of Alabama, Andrae
Crouch, Tennessee Ernie Ford, The
Oak Ridge Boys, Petra, Bill and
Gloria Gaither, the Rambos, Thomas
A. Dorsey, the Fairfield Four, Billy
Graham and the Jordanaires. Last
year, Rev. Al Green, Sandi Patty,
Frances Preston and Vestal Goodman
were inducted.
